Torevia Crespin and her husband Delbert live at Santo Domingo Pueblo with their family. They are known for their multi-color necklaces and large inlaid pieces. Torevia's brother Pula Calabaza was one of the first at Santo Domingo to start making the multi-color choker pattern. Their materials are jet, pipestone, melo shell, spiny oyster shell, turquoise and serpentine - and because bead work is done by hand, all sizes are approximate.
Made from 1/4 to 1/2 inch lapis nuggets with accents of spiny oyster shell, turquoise, Olivia shell and sugilite. The square pendantl at the bottom of the necklace is 2 inches long and 1.5 inch wide, inlaid on all 4 sides. The pendant is inlaid with lapis, coral, turquoise, MOP shell, jet and melo shell. The necklace is 24 inches long . The drop on the bottom is 5 inches long. Picture to the left is the other side of the pendant.
Made from Kingman Turquoise. The necklace is20 inches long. The heart pendant is inlaid on MOP Shell with turquoise, lapis, coral, jet, sugilite and MOP shell.
Made from many materials encluding Melo shell, jet, coral, turquoise, pipestone, serpentine. This necklace is 24 inches long and the beads are graduated from 14mm. Some call the design "Indian Corn". Each bead is beveled by hand (rounded on the sides). Very time consuming.
Large necklace. The beads are graduated from 10mm. The necklace is 29 inches long. The beads are made from serpentine, jet, pipestone, melon shell, spiny oyster shell and turquoise. Dark Indian Corn design.
Made by Chery Crespin. Inlaid on melo shell with green and blue turquoise, serpentine, abalone, MOP shell and coral. It is 2.25 inches in diameter, 2.25 inches long. On an 18 inch black cord adjustable to 21 inches.
The pendant is inlaid on MOP Shell with pipestone, turquoise, MOP shell, sugilite, serpentine and jet. It is 3.5 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. The necklace is 5mm Kingman turquoise beads, 24 inches long.
